Born in 1974 in Paris, where I still live and work. My photography journey has been both a practical approach and a theoretical reflection. Born in a family of artists, I took photography seriously since my adolescence, constantly carrying my camera around my neck and developing my photos in the evenings in the family dark room.
After high school, I went to study at FAMU in Prague, where I was introduced to American photography by my teacher Frank Rehak, as well as to Czech photography by Vladimír Birgus and Zdenek Primus. For my bachelor’s degree, I conducted an in-depth study of Sally Mann’s work, particularly Immediate Family. Her work opened my eyes to intimacy and its relation to the body.
Subsequently, I returned to Paris and entered the atelier of photography at the Beaux-Arts de Paris, led by Leslie Hamilton. Here I also had the chance of meeting intervening artists such as Jeffrey Shaw and Maurice Benayoun. Thus, I was among the first artists to explore the territories of interactive digital art. It was the access to the infinite flow of amateur images on the Internet that really blew my mind. I was fascinated by the spontaneity and lack of artifice that characterized these photographs, taken without ulterior motives. From that moment on, my practice took a turn. I abandoned the use of my camera to transform myself into a collector, a curator of a new photographic imagination.
My diploma work at the Beaux-Arts de Paris, was a series of interactive installations offering the public an alternative reading of my collection of images, inviting them to go beyond a simple erotic perception to discover invisible stories.
Later on, in the theatre piece Site Seeing Zoom (2001), produced by the Danish company Hotel Pro Forma in collaboration with Crosscross, a collective of digital artists and designers which I co-founded, my images were integrated into a narrative, acquiring a new dimension within the stage space.
My work is distinguished by its experimentation with new forms of visual storytelling, articulating the encounter between physical and digital spaces, and merging art and technology.
